Compare VPN account and household device needs

Compare household account needs and simultaneous VPN device use with current official provider terms. Distinguishes people, accounts, registered devices, and simultaneous connections.

Estimate how many people need their own account and how many devices may be connected at once. The result is a comparison aid based on the provider terms linked below, not a recommendation. “Devices supported,” devices registered, and simultaneous connections can mean different things.

Enter whole numbers and compare your needs with the official plan terms below.

What the numbers mean

The people field is a planning prompt, not a claim that a provider permits account sharing. The simultaneous-use field is a household estimate. It does not count every device on which an app might be installed or signed in. A router VPN can change how many client devices use one VPN connection, but support and configuration vary by router and provider.

Use the result to identify which official terms to inspect: account/member count, per-account simultaneous connections, device registration rules, router support, and personal-use or sharing restrictions. Read the checkout and service terms for your country before buying. See the family-plan and shared-login guide for account-boundary questions. For cost, enter the current first and renewal charges in the VPN subscription cost calculator.

How it works

Enter how many people need separate accounts and your estimated number of devices in simultaneous use. The tool compares your planning case with attributed provider statements; check current country-specific terms before buying.

Good to know

Does the tool tell me which VPN is best?

No. It compares your estimates with selected provider-published account and simultaneous-device terms. It does not rank services, check local availability, price, compatibility, or independently audit provider claims.

Are simultaneous connections the same as installed devices?

No. Providers may distinguish installation, account sign-in, registered devices, and simultaneous connections. Check the linked plan details for the exact limit and how it applies.

Does a household plan mean every member has a separate account?

That depends on the plan. Proton describes Duo and Family account counts; Surfshark describes family sharing under its fair-use rules. Review each provider’s current terms for your country.
