How it works
Choose your main goal and whether you are comfortable shifting some network visibility to a VPN provider. The result summarizes relevant limitations; it does not rank providers or guarantee protection.
Good to know
Does a VPN make me anonymous?
No. A VPN changes the network path and the IP address a website sees for that connection, but sign-ins, cookies, browser signals, and information you submit can still identify you.
What should I check before choosing a service?
Review the provider's privacy policy, permissions, security practices, and terms. A VPN shifts trust to the provider; it does not remove the need to trust an intermediary.
What sources support this tool?
See the FTC's VPN app guidance and CISA's mobile communications best-practice guidance, linked below. The result is a plain-language summary, not an independent audit of a VPN service.
