Review VPN account recovery and MFA steps

Review multifactor authentication and account recovery steps for a VPN account. No credentials or recovery codes are requested, sent, or stored.

Use this checklist to review the recovery options for a VPN service account. MFA and recovery methods differ by provider and account type. This page does not inspect an account or verify any setting.

Account recovery review I checked the provider’s current sign-in security settings and enabled MFA if the account offers it. I know which backup sign-in method or recovery-code process the provider supports. If account recovery depends on an email address or phone number, I can still access that method. I reviewed the provider’s instructions for keeping recovery material accessible if I lose my usual device. I saved or can find the provider’s official account-recovery instructions and support route. I know to review or replace recovery codes and lost MFA devices after recovering access, if the provider instructs me to. If this is a work, school, or organization account, I know whether its administrator controls recovery.

What this checklist can and cannot tell you

The result only summarizes your checkbox selections. It does not test MFA, validate a recovery method, or certify that you can regain access. Open your provider’s current instructions because methods and eligibility differ. A provider may distinguish resetting a password, regaining access to encrypted account data, and resetting MFA.

Account sign-in security is separate from VPN tunnel protection. This checklist does not assess how a VPN routes traffic, what a provider can observe, or whether a VPN is suitable for a particular risk.

Never share a one-time code or recovery code with someone who contacts you unexpectedly. Use the provider’s official site or app, reached through a known address, to find recovery steps. If you have already lost access, follow that provider’s official process; do not rely on this checklist as an account recovery service.
